On the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River, Kaziranga National Park, sprawls over an area of approximately 430SqKms in Assam. The place was declared a wild life sanctuary in 1940. An interesting story goes into the establishment of this sanctuary. In 1904 Lady Curzon visited Kaziranga in the hope of watching rhinos. She understood that the species is endangered due to constant poaching and convinced her husband Lord Curzon to do something to protect the species. That is how Kaziranga came into being as a conserved forest land.
